The Bureau of Land Management is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and prosecution of vandals who destroyed eight sandstone formations in Fantasy Canyon, BLM officials said Monday.

"It's a small site, but it's very unique," said BLM spokesman Ray Tate. "The only way this damage could have happened was for someone to hike in there and physically push the formations over."The 60-acre site about 40 miles southeast of Vernal, near the White River, contains numerous beautiful, eerie and fanciful sandstone formations "created during the past 38 million to 50 million years," said Tate.

The most spectacular structure, Camel Rock, was 16 feet high. The vandals broke off the top and rolled it down the hillside, he said. Another popular formation damaged by the vandals was Plywood Rock.
