Former banker and legislator Vee Carlisle has announced she's running for the Salt Lake City Council from District 3, the Capitol Hill and Avenues section of the city.

A personnel specialist with Your Job Connection, Carlisle was a vice president for consumer services with a local bank for 19 years. She served six year in the Utah Legislature and six years with the State Department in the foreign service.She's currently a member of the Contemporary Arts Group, the Utah Heritage Foundation, the Governor's Commission on the Status of Women and the advisory boards of Utah Business and the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Utah.

Current Council Member Sydney Fonnesbeck from District 3 isn't seeking re-election. Fonnesbeck is the last remaining member from the original 1980 council, the only person to represent the Capitol Hill and Avenues area.

Said Carlisle, "I'm proud of Salt Lake City and I want to see the city's growth reflect all the beauty, quality and vitality of the great cities - because that's what Salt Lake is - a great city.

"For the practical day-to-day operations, I have a wide background in business, legislation and international relations. And I've been involved in various phases of economic development for many years."
