Gloria G. Brown, a former personal adviser for first lady Betty Ford, took over June 1 as director of public affairs for the Bacchus Works of Hercules Inc.
Brown was formerly manager of business relations for the Hercules Aerospace Co. She replaces Jack F. DeMann, who took early retirement after 27 years with the company. DeMann has been named executive director of the Utah League of Cities and Towns.Brown has owned and operated an insurance firm and was active in politics. She and her husband, the late James E. Brown, served as special ambassadors to Nepal during the Ford administration.
Brown has served on several gubernatorial panels and committees for Govs. Norm Bangerter, Scott Matheson and Calvin Rampton. She is a member of the Women's League, the Salt Lake Rotary Club, on the committee for Sen. Orrin Hatch's Utah Womens Conference and is on the board of directors for the Sundance Institute and the National Kidney Foundation of Utah.
Dave Nicponski has been promoted to manager of the company's government affairs. Nicponski, a former city manager for the town of Alta and a former Salt Lake police officer, will serve as a liaison, assisting legislators, city and county officials.
He is a member of the Valley West Chamber of Commerce board of directors and serves as a member of the Governor's Drug-Free Youth Federation.
Roxann P. Webb will take over as community affairs manager. She has worked as a public relations assistant for Hercules since 1986.
