SHARE NEW CHAIRMAN OF BYU FAMILY SCIENCE NAMED

Terrance D. Olson, Orem, is the new chairman of the department of family sciences at Brigham Young University.

The department was merged with the department of home economics, Stan L. Albrecht, dean of the College of Family, Home and Social Sciences, announced recently.On Sept. 1, Olson will succeed Robert F. Stahmann, chairman of family sciences, and Carol Ellsworth, chairman of home economics. Both will return to full-time teaching and research.

The change is in conjunction with establishing the Institute for Family Studies, which will draw upon grant and endowment funds to conduct a variety of studies on the dynamics of family interaction and on conditions that contribute to, or erode, the quality of family life.

Olson, an associate dean in the College of Family, Home and Social Sciences, has extensive experience in both family sciences and home economics. He joined BYU in 1974 from the University of New Mexico.
