Ohio State officials have requested permission to talk to Kansas State basketball coach Lon Kruger and Kansas coach Roy Williams in their search for a new coach.
Athletic directors of both Big Eight Conference schools confirmed the requests by Ohio State, a member of the Big Ten Conference.Kruger has a three-year record of 64-31 at Kansas State and has taken the Wildcats to the NCAA Tournament each season. He left town after his basketball camp ended this week and could not be reached for comment.
Kansas sports information director Doug Vance said Ohio State was granted permission to talk to Williams earlier this week by KU athletic director Bob Frederick. Vance said he did not know if Williams had yet made contact with Ohio State.
Williams, who is in the middle of his basketball camp session, could not be reached for comment, but the Columbus Dispatch quoted unidentified sources at Kansas as saying Williams is not expected to consider leaving the Jayhawks job.
