The University of Utah College of Engineering has presented its 1989 Outstanding Leadership Award to Dana L. Tangren, who graduated with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and now plans a career in environmental law.

Tangren, a lab technician and teaching assistant in the Department of Civil Engineering, helped build facilities in the department's Waste Water Treatment Laboratory.He is also president of the student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers and a member and past officer in Chi Epsilon, the civil engineering honor society.

Dr. Dietrich K. Gehmlich, professor and department chairman, says the award pays tribute to Tangren's leadership capabilities and his accomplishments as a student in the College of Engineering.

Tangren will enroll in law school at the University of Vermont in the fall.
