An explosion ripped through a house being searched by the Police Department's bomb squad Tuesday, injuring at least seven officers, authorities said.
The blast occurred about 6:10 a.m. as bomb squad officers were searching the house in Koreatown, police and fire officials said. The explosion set off a fire that swept through the two-story Victorian-style residence, Fire Department spokesman Jim Williamson said.About 30 firefighters controlled the blaze in 35 minutes, he said.
Two bomb squad officers and up to five other officers were injured in the blast, Williamson said. All reportedly suffered minor burns, cuts and smoke inhalation, he said.
The incident occurred after doctors at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center reported treating a young man suffering a hand injury caused by an apparent explosion.
