Columnist Jack Anderson was reprimanded by a reporters' committee for smuggling a gun into the Capitol last month to make a point, but the investigative reporter immediately rejected the action.

"My purpose was to save lives by dramatizing that the Capitol security system was vulnerable," Anderson said Monday. Anderson also said he was "appalled that the congressional leaders whose lives I wanted to protect seem less concerned about the threat to their security than the political embarrassment I apparently caused them." The Standing Committee of Correspondents, a group of journalists that oversees media credentials, admonished Anderson "in the strongest terms" but did not revoke his press pass.
