Two new stakes have been created, one in Mexico and one in Utah.

Elder Richard G. Scott of the Council of the Twelve officiated at the organization of the Papantla Mexico Stake, created from the Papantla Mexico District in the Mexico Veracruz Mission. The new stake, with a membership of 2,496, consists of the Voladores, Tajin, Gutierrez Zamora, Agua Dulce and Martinez de La Torre wards, and the Riachuelos Branch.The Logan Utah University 1st and 3rd stakes were divided to create the Logan Utah University 4th Stake. Elder Marion D. Hanks of the Presidency of the Seventy officiated at the creation. The new stake has 1,193 members and consists of the University 2nd, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th, and 29th wards.

Elsewhere, stakes were reorganized in Bluefield, Va.; Dayton, Ohio; Guatemala City and Retalhuleu, Guatemala; Leon and Monterrey, Mexico; Porto Alegre, Brazil; and Rexburg, Idaho.

LOGAN UTAH UNIVERSITY 4TH STAKE: (May 7, 1989) Created from the Logan Utah University 1st and 3rd stakes. President - Russell M. Warren, 49, eye physician and surgeon, former stake president and counselor, high councilor, bishop, Scoutmaster, married Mary Ann Baxter. Counselors - Douglas Evan Thompson, 41, executive director of Cache County Chamber of Commerce, former bishop and counselor, and Cubmaster, married Martha McClellan; Dennis Clare Jensen, 54, high school principal, former high councilor, bishop and counselor, and priests quorum adviser, married Lorna Winborg.
