US WEST Communications is again offering address information as part of its directory assistance service.
The U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., recently granted US WEST a waiver request that went into effect May 26.US WEST discontinued providing address information on Jan. 1 to ensure it was in compliance with federal regulations governing telecommunications services resulting from the 1984 divestiture of the Bell system.
US WEST requested the waiver on May 4 and the U.S. Justice Department filed a favorable recommendation with the court on May 12. Since no objections were received, the waiver went into effect on May 26.
"We always believed address information was an appropriate part of directory assistance service and we're glad we can once again provide this information to our customers," said Carol A. Dunlap, US WEST Communications spokeswoman.
