Wheels will spin on sand this weekend as drag racing moves to the Western National Sand Drags at Bonneville Raceway Park. The major sand drag event will feature cars from Utah, California, Nevada, Wyoming and Arizona.

Cars registered and ran qualifying runs today. Saturday and Sunday they will run more qualifying and eliminations. Gates will open both days at 9 a.m., with eliminations starting at 1 p.m. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children seven to 12, with children six and under and senior citizens 65 and over free.Classes will include top fuel, top alcohol, sand modified, competition modified, pro comp and pro brackets.

Among the local favorites will be the teams of Utah Chassis, Black Magic Racing, Team Budweiser, along with individuals LeRoy Wilson and Milt Priest.

The track, said to be the fastest in the western circuit, is located at 6555 W. 2100 South.
