Police searched Monday for two men suspected of planting a bomb in a British soldier's car that killed him and injured his wife and four children. Authorities said they suspect the IRA in the attack.
The explosion occurred Sunday evening as the victim opened the door of his red Mercedes, police and British military officials said. Bomb experts later found another explosive nearby and defused it, authorities said.No one claimed responsibility. However, West German officials said they suspected the Irish Republican Army was behind the attack, the second on British military personnel in West Germany in two weeks.
The car was parked along a quiet, residential street where many British military families live on the outskirts of this northern city.
