H. Reese Hansen, professor of law and associate dean of the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University, has been named acting dean by President Rex E. Lee.
The appointment is effective immediately, Lee said. Hansen replaces Bruce C. Hafen, recently named provost of BYU.Hansen will serve an interim period while a soon-to-be-appointed search committee prepares to recommend candidates for the post.
The new acting dean is a native of Newton, Cache County, and is a graduate of Utah State University. He earned his law degree from the University of Utah College of Law.
Hansen joined the BYU faculty in 1974, simultaneously becoming assistant dean of the law school. He has been associate dean since 1976.
He has practiced law in Salt Lake City and is co-author of works on the Idaho and Utah probate court systems. Hansen serves on several committees in professional, government and scholastic organizations.
