A Soviet television news chief said recently that people in his country, already receiving vastly more information than ever before, are now looking forward to watching the Cable News Network at the beginning of next year.

"Starting Jan. 1 of next year, direct satellite reception will be available and the Soviet Union will receive the CNN programs," said Eduard Sagalaev, chief editor of the Soviet evening news program "Vremya."Sagalaev, who spoke through an interpreter, said he had met with CNN chief executive Ted Turner in Atlanta on his current trip to the United States.

He did not discuss many specifics of the deal.
