From Jan. 8, airlines and travel agents around the world will begin inserting in ticket folders a notice warning passengers about hazardous items they are prohibited from carrying aboard planes.

Federal regulations - and similar regulations in many foreign countries - bar passengers from carrying spray paint, fireworks, acids, bleaches, wet-cell batteries and gasoline.Putting such items in bags that are checked on flights is also prohibited. Passengers may carry matches in pockets or purses but may not pack them in checked luggage.
