The Alpine School District approved a new kindergarten entrance policy Tuesday that district officials say will better follow state guidelines.
Jack Reid, administrative assistant, said the policy now requires that parents provide a birth certificate as proof that the child is 5 years old by Sept. 1 of the year he is to enter kindergarten. In the past the district accepted church blessing certificates as proof of age.The policy says children must be immunized according to Department of Health regulations. Children also must reside within the boundaries of the school in which they seek admission. In some cases exceptions to the regulations may be granted.
