Brigham Young University history professor Marvin S. Hill has won the 1990 Best Book award presented by the John Whitmer Historical Association, according to Maurice L. Draper, association president.

This is the second time his book, "Quest for Refuge: The Mormon Flight from American Pluralism," has been cited. Last June, the Mormon History Association presented Hill with its annual award for the best book in the field of Mormon history.The work is published by Signature Books in Salt Lake City.

Draper said Hill last year received the Whitmer Association's Best Article award for "Counter Revolution: The Mormon Reaction to the Coming of American Democracy."

Hill earned his doctorate at the University of Chicago and has been a research fellow at the Huntington Library and Yale University. He joined the BYU faculty in 1966.
