The Great Salt Lake declined another 1.2 inches during the first half of October, the National Weather Service said Monday.
The lake's elevation, measured Monday at the U.S. Geological Survey's boat harbor gage, was 4,202.5 feet above sea level, the service's Colorado Basin River Forecast Center said. That was down 0.1 of a foot from the Oct. 1 reading. The center said the Great Salt Lake is now 2 feet lower than at this time last year and is at its lowest level since March 1983.
And the center said the lake is expected to drop about another third of a foot this fall, before starting its annual rise during the winter and spring.
