The Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce is seeking applications for its Leadership Utah program, which is designed to identify and train people who want to learn more about the challenges facing the community.

A maximum of 35 people from middle- or upper-level management positions will be selected and each must attend 80 percent of the activities to graduate. Tuition, which covers meals, transportation, activities, materials and program administration, is $800 for members in good standing with the chamber and $1,100 for non-members.Douglas Rhodes, director of business development for the chamber, said Leadership Utah members meet monthly and listen to speakers talk about a community overview, state government and taxation, the arts, law enforcement and crime, tourism and economic development, health care, education, Utah's culture, local government and infrastructure and voluntarism.

The application deadline is Nov. 30. Selections are made by a committee, and the first session will be held in January.
