SHARE POWER-POLE FIRE CAUSES SMALL BLAZE IN CANYON

An electric pole a few miles up Big Cottonwood Canyon burst into flames Thursday night causing a small fire.

Salt Lake County firefighters and deputy sheriffs responded to the 8:40 p.m. fire burned the pole in half and threw wires to the ground, said Salt Lake County Fire Lt. Vernon Jensen.The fire, which occurred near the Ledge Mere Picnic area of the canyon, knocked the power out in the surrounding area. Firefighters believe it may have knocked the power out in other areas of the canyon, also.

Utah Power & Light responded to the scene to evaluate the damages.
