Many were lost, but all are found. The first weekend of the 1990 Utah deer hunt ended with few accidents and only one death, that due to a heart attack.
County sheriff's offices throughout the state responded to a variety of hunting-related calls, mostly for hunters who were overdue at their camps. But by the end of the weekend, all had been located.The Garfield County sheriff's office is still looking for the person, believed to be a teenager with long blond hair, who shot Paul Bowman, 26, of Provo, in the thigh Saturday morning. Bowman was treated at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center and was released Sunday.
There were three other minor accidental shootings and several vehicle accidents involving hunters.
George Goddard, about 65, of Cedar City, died Sunday of a heart attack he suffered while hunting with his son in Right Hand Canyon near Cedar City, the Utah Highway Patrol said. He was dead at the scene.
