The Trumpeter Swan Society has offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest of the people who shot two trumpeter swans last week at Marshall's Pond in eastern Idaho.
The swans, among only 20 breeding pairs left in Idaho, were found by state Fish and Game officials earlier this week in an area closed to hunting."It wasn't an innocent mistake," said Fish and Game spokesman Rod Parker. "This wasn't done by hunters. It was done by vandals and criminals. They had to trespass to shoot these birds. We really want these people."
There were 577 trumpeter swans in the greater Yellowstone area, according to a September survey done by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. There have been attempts to list the swans as an endangered species, but currently they are not on the list.
