Eric Davis won't be able to celebrate the Cincinnati Reds' World Series championship for a while.

The outfielder remains hospitalized today with a severely bruised kidney. He damaged it when he hit the ground hard while trying to make a diving catch in the Reds' clinching 2-1 victory Saturday night over Oakland. He was in the intensive care unit of Merritt Hospital when the rest of the team returned to Cincinnati on a charter flight Sunday. Tests, including a CAT scan, found no rupture of the organ, so surgery won't be required, team spokesman Jim Ferguson said.

The injury is expected to heal with time.
