To the editor:

For the first 44 years of its existence, the political organization meant to preserve peace, the United Nations, has failed to deliver peace because exercise of Article 47 of the U.N. charter was throttled by vetoes in the Security Council. With the United Nations moving toward exercise of Article 47 in the Middle East crisis, the promise of peace on earth may yet become a reality in our children's lives.

The Salt Lake and Granite school districts are now allowing students, including kindergartners, to carry home a message announcing the celebration of the United Nations' 45th birthday Oct. 24 at 7:30 p.m. at Highland High School.

On behalf of the United Nations Association of Utah and celebration participants Judge Bruce S. Jenkins and the Jay Welch Chorale, we express appreciation to both school district administrations for their cooperation.
