Utah posted a 2 percent increase in personal income from the first quarter of 1990 through the April-June quarter, the Commerce Department said Tuesday.

The study, by the department's Bureau of Economic Analysis, showed Utah during the period bested the national personal income, which grew only 1.3 percent, down from 2.1 percent in the first quarter. The study showed that Iowa, with 2.3 decrease, and Nebraska, with 0.4 percent decrease, were the only states to post declines in personal incomes in the second quarter of 1990, although income growth slowed throughout the nation.

The slowdown in income growth mirrored the economy as a whole. The department reported earlier the gross national product - the nation's total output of goods and services - slowed from 1.7 percent in the first quarter to just 0.4 percent in the second.
