The SBD Dauntless, a World War II Navy divebomber, is raised from the bottom of Lake Michigan about 16 miles off Chicago's Navy Pier. The plane sank Nov. 23, 1943, in 130 feet of water as the pilot came in for a landing on the aircraft carrier Wolverine. The rare plane, which was missing its left wing and part of the tail section, will be dismantled and shipped to the National Museum of Naval Aviation in Pensacola, Fla., for restoration.
