The longest serving member of the Federal Reserve System will speak at Utah State University's 21st annual Intermountain Banking Seminar on Wednesday, Nov. 14.
Martha Romayne Seger of the Federal Reserve's Board of Governors will discuss the regulatory burden on banks in a George S. Eccles Distinguished Lecture at 2 p.m. in the Eccles Conference Center.Seger was named one of the top 100 Corporate Women by Business Week magazine.
John Kooken, vice chairman and chief financial officer of Security Pacific Corp., will open the seminar at 8:30 a.m. The national director of the Financial Executives Institute and chairman of the Bank Administration Institute will speak on challenges to the banking industry in the 1990s.
"Preparing for an Acquisition" will be the subject of a talk at 9:15 a.m. by Stephen Smith, attorney and partner with Schwabe Williamson and Wyatt. He has extensive involvement with banks, bank holding companies, savings and loan associations and mortgage banking companies and is well-versed in mergers and acquisitions and capital litigation.
The co-director of Stanford's Financial Management Program for Executives will speak at 10:15 a.m. George Parker will talk about banks and the increasing use of debt by corporations. He is on the board of University National Bank and Trust and the Collective Investment Trust for Wells Fargo Bank.
An executive forum at 12:30 p.m. will look at local banking problems. Featured speakers will include Robert White Jr., president and CEO of Utah Indpendent Bank; Harold Steed, president and CEO of Community First Bank; Louis Harris, executive vice president of First Security Bank; and Michael Morgan, vice president and manager of First Interstate Bank of California.
