Chante Fernandez, 24, of Elizabeth, told police she locked her 5-year-old daughter, Anjuli, in her car because she didn't have a trustworthy baby sitter while she worked weekends at a shopping mall. She left a rear seat folded down so the girl could sleep in the trunk area.Fernandez was charged with criminal restraint after her arrest Saturday and could have received five years in prison and a $7,500 fine. But on Wednesday the charge was reduced to a petty disorderly persons offense, which carries up to a $500 fine.
