Six Juab High students are in Kishinev, Soviet Union, to live with families and go to school there in a three-week exchange program.
The students are Carin Coray, Jamie Jacobsen, Jenny Jarvis, Wayne Greenhalgh, Kori Newton and Julie Trauntvein. Alisa Stanley, a Millard High School student, is also participating with the Juab group.Loreta Whicker is adviser and trip organizer for the high school.
Upon arrival at Moscow airport, the group was to be met by an English teacher in Kishinev who, with Helen Granina, arranged for the trip, said Whicker. Students will return to Utah in November.
Whicker took a computer with her to leave with the school there. The computer is being donated by the Apple.
The students from Kishinev, in Moldavia 90 miles northwest of Odessa, will arrive in Utah in March for their part of the exchange.
The Juab students are each paying their own airfare to Moscow.
Students took gifts for their hosts, as is the custom, as well as gifts for the schools.
A check for $300 was presented to Whicker and to Leonard Trauntvein, Juab High principal, by Allan Gibson, president, and Rulon Broadhead, member of the Nephi Lions Club, to help pay trip expenses.
