A string of Thursday morning aggravated assaults and a kidnapping ended after a police chase in Midvale where officers arrested a 25-year-old Arizona man.

Midvale Police Lt. Dan Pearson said a woman flagged down Midvale police officer Victor Quezada at 7:30 a.m. and told him she believed a man with a gun was getting ready to rob Heart's convenience store at 7200 S. 300 West. "Right about that point the lady looked up and pointed to the driver of a pickup truck" she identified as the would-be robber, Pearson said.Officers tried to stop the truck, which fled to a parking lot at 7200 S. State. There, officers arrested a man who was driving a pickup truck owned by a 20-year-old Midvale man. The truck's owner, now a passenger in the truck, told police he had been kidnapped at gunpoint at the convenience store after he stopped for gas.

Pearson said the man arrested was carrying a .32-caliber semi-automatic pistol and the keys to a car stolen at gunpoint from three women in Salt Lake City earlier in the morning.

At about 6 a.m., a man tried to commandeer a delivery truck at gunpoint in Salt Lake City but was unsuccessful, Pearson said. Police believe that assault may be related.
