A long, hot summer and nearly ideal growing conditions have produced an abundance of pumpkins in time for Halloween. A high-pressure system has settled over the Great Basin, and pleasant weather will continue during the next few days over most of Utah, said Dick Asper, a meteorologist at the Salt Lake office of the National Weather Service. The temperature dropped to 42 degrees early Thursday at the Salt Lake International Airport. The forecast is for sunshine through at least Friday. Highs will be in the low to mid-70s. Lows Thursday night will be 40 to 45 degrees in the Salt Lake, Ogden and Provo areas.
