Richfield won its first 2A state prep volleyball championship and Enterprise defeated Rich again for the second straight year for the 1A volleyball title.
At the 2A state finals Saturday at Snow College, Richfield rebounded from a first-match loss to down 1989 runner-up Delta, 9-15, 15-9, 15-7.Manti nipped South Sevier for third-place honors, 15-12, 13-15, 18-16. San Juan beat Morgan 15-12, 15-13, giving the Broncos fifth and sending the defending champions to seventh place. And for sixth and eight places in the consolation championship, North Sanpete rallied to defeat South Summit, 11-15, 15-8, 15-2.
In Saturday's 1A finals at the College of Eastern Utah, it was a same-song-second-verse matchup between Enterprise and Rich - with the same results as last year. Enterprise lost the first match 6-15 but returned to claim its second straight crown with 17-15 and 15-12 match victories over two-time runner-up Rich.
Piute defeated Bryce Valley 15-16, 15-11 for third-place honors; Valley downed Parowan 15-9, 15-1 for fifth; and Salt Lake Lutheran claimed sixth and the consolation championship with an 11-15, 15-10, 15-5 win over Altamont.
