A judge has decided there is sufficient evidence to bind over for trial a Hill Air Force Base airman charged with the stabbing death of a 28-year-old Ogden man.

Keith Edward Mincy, 20, will appear before Judge James Sawaya on Nov. 2 to be arraigned on a second-degree murder charge for the Sept. 23 stabbing death of Lorenzo Thompson.Mincy remained in the Salt Lake County Jail, where bail has been set at $100,000.

Third Circuit Court Judge Robin W. Reese bound Mincy's case over following a preliminary hearing Wednesday in which witnesses testified that they had seen Mincy stab Thompson after a fight that began outside the DV8 Social Club in downtown Salt Lake City.

Melinda Ann Clarkson of Salt Lake City was among a group of friends that included Thompson. She testified that Thompson was the victim of a foolish argument that got out of control.

Clarkson said that she, Thompson and three other friends were on their way to a party at the Marriott Hotel when they stopped in front of DV8 around 2 a.m. to talk to acquaintances.

She said she and her friends were preparing to leave when Thompson nearly backed his Volkswagen Fox into a Suzuki owned by a member of the other group.

A fight that began when Thompson made derogatory comments about the Suzuki resulted in three separate brawls involving six men, Clarkson said.

Before the incident was finished, she said she saw Mincy pull a knife from his pocket and thrust it at Thompson, who later died after his friends raced him to Holy Cross Hospital.

Todd C. Grey, the state's chief medical examiner, testified that Thompson's autopsy indicated that he died from a stab wound to the lower left side of his chest that nicked his liver and penetrated the the area of his heart.
