Afton Hogan Pond Sorenson, 84, died Sunday October 7, 1990 at the Sunshine Terrace of alzhiemers disease.

Born December 9, 1905 in Lewiston, Utah to Goudy A. and Arminta Rawlins Hogan. She was educated in Lewiston City schools and North Cache High School where she was an honor student. She later took a 2 year secretarial course at USAC. She married Glen Pond June 11, 1923; they were later divorced. She married W.A. (Tony) Sorenson on November 9, 1938 in the Logan LDS Temple; he died May 1, 1986. She was always very active in the LDS Church serving in both the MIA and Relief Society presidencies. She played the piano and organ for all the auxiliaries, as well accompanying instrumental and vocal soloists. She was also a chorister and choir director for many years. While a young girl in Lewiston, she played for the silent movies. As a business woman, she worked for 12 years in the County Courthouse, then for 22 years in the controllers office at Utah State University.She is survived by a son, Glen M. Pond and wife LuJeanne, Logan; daughter, Patricia and husband F.K. Brough, Salt Lake City; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lillian Culver, Riverdale, N.Y.; Arminta Mathews, Logan; and Muriel Hunter, Reno, Nevada. Preceded in death by three brothers, Lloyd, Clayton, and Fred Hogan; two sisters, Ione Hogan and Nana Cole; and a grandson, Steven John Brough.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 10, at 12 noon, in the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel, 162 East 400 North, Logan, where friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Wednesday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
