Salt Lake City ranked 13th among 75 cities in economic growth during the second quarter of 1990, according to Alphametrics Corp.
The economic consulting and software firm based in Pennsylvania said in its quarterly report, "Economic Performance Index for U.S. Cities," that Salt Lake City was fourth among nine high-growth cities in the West, as measured "purely by the ability of economies to generate raw jobs."Based on that narrow measurement, the index shows Las Vegas leading the western cities during the second quarter with a 9.4 percent growth rate, followed by Fresno at 6.6 percent and Seattle at 4.8 percent.
The larger index, ranking the 75 U.S. cities based on economic activity as measured by real personal income and employment, named Youngstown, Ohio, the leader with a 7.43 percent growth rate.
Salt Lake City, ranked 13th, had a quarterly growth rate of 0.93 percent, according to the index.
