Despite major gains for the opposition Social Democrats and losses for most other parties, the electorate handed back a largely unchanged balance of socialist and non-socialist blocks in parliament. With 91 seats grouped in six non-socialist parties and 84 votes held by the two socialist parties, the most likely outcome of Wednesday's election was a reshuffled non-socialist coalition under Schluter's leadership.
