A public meeting with the project manager of the company that might build a pipeline east of Bountiful is scheduled Wednesday, Jan. 2, at 7:30 p.m.

Residents are invited to question Lonnie Newton, of Kern River Gas Transmission Co., about how the company would ensure safety and minimize environmental damage. The Bountiful City Council - which remains opposed to the pipeline but has so far been unable to stop it - specifically wants to know the timetable for construction; the impact of construction on roads and canyons; the exact location of the pipeline; construction techniques; where the pipeline would cross the three streams in its path; and what kind of arrangements are being made to house the workers during construction.

In a letter to Newton, City Manager Tom Hardy said the discussion would likely not involve the merits of the route through Bountiful versus alternate routes.
