John Richard Day, 53, of Groton, Connecticut, died December 22, 1990 in New London, Connecticut.

He was born September 7, 1937 in Draper, Utah, the son of Florence Jenkins Day and the late John M. Day. John was married and divorced. He was a Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and had served as a Master Chief in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1978. After retirement he had worked as a systems inspector at the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics in Groton.He was a member of the LDS Church, and also was a founding member of the Submarine Veterans of America and the Fleet Reserve Association in Groton. He grew up in the Draper area and attended schools in Draper and at Jordan High School and then entered the service in 1953.

He is survived by his mother, Florence, Draper; son, John C. Day, with the U.S. Marines in Saudi Arabia; daughter, Dianna J. Peno, West Warwick, Rhode Island; brother, Keith Day, Rush Valley, Utah; sisters, Darlene Coster, Tooele; Gloria Boulter, Riverton. Stepson, Bruce Sissler, Bohemia, New York.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28, 1990, at 1 p.m. in the Goff Mortuary Chapel, 8090 South State, where friends may call Friday one hour prior to services. Interment, Mountain View Memorial Estates, 3200 East 7800 South.
