A certified social worker, who has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a 16-year-old she counseled while an intern with state Social Services, faces disciplinary action against her license, a petition says.

Laura Lee Free-Campbell, Provo, was a graduate social work intern in the state's Child Protective Services program last January when she was assigned to counsel a 16-year-old girl, the petition said.Free-Campbell counseled the teenager until the internship ended March 28. In early July, about a week after Free-Campbell received her social work license, she "repeatedly engaged in sexual activities" with the former patient, according to the petition issued by the state Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing.

In October she entered a guilty plea to one count of forcible sexual abuse, a third degree felony, in 4th District Court, the petition said. Details of her Dec. 14 sentencing were not available Friday.

Based on her conviction and her alleged relationship with a former patient, the petition said, the division has accused Free-Campbell of two counts of unprofessional conduct and seeks revocation, suspension or any other sanctions against her license.
