The American Lung Association says lung disease is the third-leading cause of death in the United States.Most of the 140,000 annual lung cancer deaths could be avoided through smoking cessations. The 70,000 deaths annually from flu and pneumonia would be reduced if more people were immunized. And asthma deaths could be reduced through proper medical care and management.
