Deposed strongman Manuel Antonio Noriega has been charged with the 1985 murder of a former doctor who had accused Noriega of drug trafficking, court officials said Friday.
Supreme Court President Carlos Lucas Lopez said Noriega, former members of the Panamanian Defense Forces and some civilians were charged with the murder of Hugo Spadafora, a health minister under former Panamanian leader Gen. Omar Torrijos.Spadafora was found decapitated in a Costa Rican town near the Panamanian border in September 1985.
He had said he had proof linking Noriega to drug trafficking.

Noriega, who was ousted in the December 1989 U.S. invasion, is awaiting trial on drug trafficking and money laundering charges in Miami.
