The New American Symphony, conducted by Michael A. Palumbo, is seeking additional string players, especially cellists and bassists. Prospective members should contact Palumbo at 626-6991 or 476-8043.

The community orchestra, now in its second year, plays three pairs of concerts each season and a summer pops. Five rehearsals are held for each concert program, Tuesday evenings and Saturday mornings, at Weber State University. The next concerts are Jan. 25 and 26, at Weber State and the University of Utah. The first rehearsal will be held Tuesday, Jan. 8, at 7:30 p.m.- The American West Symphony and Chorus will hold auditions on Saturday, Jan. 5, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the Bicentennial Hall, 470 E. 8680 South in Sandy.

All positions are available in both chorus and orchestra, with special need for altos, tenors and basses in the chorus, and bass, cello, brass and woodwinds in the Symphony. For further information call 942-5322 or 571-7332.

Upcoming concerts will include a performance of Rutter's Requiem Mass, in the Assembly Hall on March 8; a chamber concert on April 22; and a spring concert featuring pianist Paul Pollei in Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue and Gospel Mass by Robert Ray, on May 31. Terrell C. Lamoreaux conducts the orchestra, and Brian Bentley is choral conductor.
