The Alternative Socialist Party, the first communist faction to make a complete break from ruling Bulgarian Communist Party, declared its support for the democratization of Bulgarian society and offered to work with other parties with similar views.The founding congress coincided with a meeting of 27 pro-democracy groups trying to forge a coalition to oppose the communists in the elections.
