Rep. Howard Nielson, R-Utah, is co-sponsoring a bill to strengthen the nation's sagging rural health-care system.
"Some rural communities in Utah are in serious jeopardy with regard to their health care," Nielson said Friday. "This legislation incorporates a number of issues I've been working with over the past few years."They include:
- Revitalizing the National Health Service Corps with a renewed scholarship program for health professionals willing to practice in rural areas.
- Improving Medicare reimbursements for rural hospitals.
- Providing tax incentives to attract physicians to rural areas.
- Reforming payment systems to physicians in rural areas.
