SHARE HAROLD POPE, FORMER MAYOR OF BOUNTIFUL, DIES

Harold LeGrande Pope, former Bountiful mayor and assistant general manager of Brooklawn Creamery Co., died Saturday, March 17, 1990. He was 79.

Besides serving a four-year term as mayor of Bountiful, Mr. Pope was a city councilman for eight years. He was also a member of the Davis County Merit Commission from 1962-1988. He served on several boards, including a stint as chairman of the Bountiful Power and Light board for two terms.Mr. Pope's career at the creamery spanned 49 years. He advanced from helper to buttermaker to manager to vice president and assistant general manager of the company.

He won numerous community service awards, including the Utah State Chamber Total Citizen Award, honorary life membership in the Utah State Conference on Human Services, U.S. Jaycees award, the Bountiful Area Chamber of Commerce Outstanding Service Award, the Utah State Department of Social Services Award and the Exchange Club Golden Deeds Award.

As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mr. Pope was a Sunday School superintendent, ward clerk and counselor, before becoming bishop of the Bountiful 6th Ward and a stake high councilman. He served an LDS mission at Lagoon Pioneer Village and was active in Scouting.

Services are scheduled Wednesday, March 21, at 1 p.m. in the Bountiful Tabernacle, 50 S. Main St. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Bountiful Mortuary, 295 N. Main, and for an hour prior to the funeral services. Interment at Bountiful City Cemetery.
