Teachers and parents have asked the Duchesne County School Board to hire a full-time music teacher for Duchesne High School.
The school board agreed that the music program is important, but said it is difficult to bring in good teachers and keep them in the area. Last year, a teacher was hired and at the last moment, decided not to move to the Basin.Board member Ralph Ercanbrack asked the group if they would be willing to raise property taxes for the money - most of the people there raised their hands. But if it came down to raising taxes, the group would also have to contend with other residents who have already signed petitions saying they do not want taxes raised.
The next school board meeting is scheduled Thursday, March 22, at 6 p.m., in the county courthouse. Open time is from 7 to 7:15 p.m.
