Paul M. Hollingsworth, a professor of elementary education at Brigham Young University, has been named chair of BYU's elementary education department, effective May 1.
Hollingsworth replaces James W. Dunn, who will return to full-time teaching and research after nearly seven years as chair.Hollingsworth joined the BYU faculty in 1985 after serving as chair of the curriculum and instruction department at the University of Nevada, Reno. He has taught at Arizona State University and has been a visiting professor at Chadron State College and Adams State College.
The Preston, Idaho, native is author or co-author of 13 books and has written more than 50 papers and articles for journals, reviews and conferences. He received the American Educational Research Association's Distinguished Research Paper Award in 1988 and holds numerous commendations from the International Reading Association.
Hollingsworth earned his bachelor of science degree at BYU and his master of arts and doctoral degrees at Arizona State University.
