Indianapolis Colts general manager Jim Irsay says running back Eric Dickerson's statement that he's "through with football" is "a slap in the face to the organization and the fans."
"You won't see Eric back again," Dickerson said in an interview broadcast Monday by Indianapolis television station WFYI. "I'm through with football. They (the Colts) know it. I'm finished," the seven-year NFL veteran said."Before we made the trade with the Rams to obtain Eric, he gave us his assurance he would play out his contract. We are tremendously disappointed by his actions," Irsay said.
The Colts obtained Dickerson on Halloween in 1987.
During the 20-minute interview taped Thursday at his Los Angeles home, Dickerson, 29, who has spent two full seasons with the Colts, said he had lost interest in playing football.
"Right now I really don't love the game that much," he said. "I don't love it like I did at one time. But rather than stay in Indianapolis and take the pounding that I'm taking, I'd rather quit.
