Utah livestock producers and meat processors will have a chance to learn all about exporting their products to Pacific Rim countries, Canada and Mexico at a Western states meat export conference in Sun Valley, Idaho, April 27-28.

Jim Bradley, director of marketing and promotion for the Utah Department of Agriculture, said featured speakers will include top officials of the U.S. Meat Export Federation, a group that is under contract with the Utah Department of Agriculture to promote the sale of Utah beef in Japan and other foreign countries.In addition to the Utah Department of Agriculture, conference sponsors are the state departments of agriculture in California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington and Wyoming.

The two-day program will include discussions of specific market trends and opportunities in Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore; a close look at federal certification rules and requirements for export; logistics for shipping live animals to Pacific Rim countries; and marketing opportunities and trends in Canada and Mexico.
