Two adults and a juvenile were arrested and booked for investigation of aggravated assault Tuesday after a 7-year-old girl was shot with a BB gun.
The girl was riding her bike on McClelland Street (1040 East) about 6:10 p.m. Tuesday when three people who live in the area shot at her from out of a window with a pump BB gun, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Tom Brown.A BB became lodged in the girl's sternum and she was taken to Primary Children's Medical Center, where she was in good condition Tuesday night. Brown said she was admitted as a precautionary measure.
Two men, both 18, were booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of aggravated assault. A 17-year-old boy was taken to a juvenile detention center.
"Apparently they've been shooting at victims for two days," he said. Another young boy was riding his bike in the same area Monday and was shot in the head area. The boy was not injured, but a BB was "buried in his helmet."
Brown said pump BB guns can be very powerful and dangerous. "Like the 7-year-old said, `They could've killed me.' "
